Do I Need My Gutter Cleaned?

Gutter cleaning in Central Oregon is an important part of home maintenance. Water can back up into the walls due to clogged gutters, causing thousands of dollars in damage. Standing water in a clogged gutter is a mosquito breeding ground, which is a concern during the spring West Nile virus and EEE season. Clogged rain gutters freeze into heavy blocks of ice in the winter, causing your rain gutters to pull away from your home, reducing the lifespan of the gutter system and creating an overhead ice hazard, which can lead to large ice dams and icicles. Gutter covers (also known as gutter protection) can reduce or eliminate the need for gutter cleaning.

How Often Should My Gutters Be Cleaned?

Depending on the debris left by the trees surrounding your home (i.e. trees with blossoms, pollen strings, leaves, pine needles, seeds, acorns, sticks, etc.), it is recommended that your gutters be cleaned 2-3 times a year – in the spring, early fall (October), and late fall (November/December). A fourth gutter cleaning in the summer is often required for homes with a lot of leaves or pine needles.

As you might expect, gutter cleaning and maintenance is a year-round responsibility. Rain, snow, and debris can all enter your gutter at any time. As a result, it is critical to inspect your gutters on a regular basis. You can also hire our gutter cleaning crew to perform routine maintenance so you don’t miss any inspections.

When Is The Best Time To Clean My gutters?

  • Spring – Between April and the end of June, clean out your gutters of fall and winter debris. Furthermore, some of the tender tree foliage, as well as blossoms and pollen strings, are blown off the trees, clogging gutters and causing them to hold water, creating an ideal breeding ground for mosquito larva.
  • Mid To Late Summer – August to September because, even though most leaves are firmly attached to the trees, some still fall and end up in the gutters. During the summer, thunderstorms, strong winds, and drought all contribute significantly to large accumulations of leaves, pine needles, sticks, and debris.
  • Early Fall – From October to November, leaves and needles quickly accumulate in your gutters, and their sheer volume requires gutter clearing.
  • Late Fall (Before Snow Arrives)

Cleaning time varies depending on where you live, but most leaves fall between late November and the first weeks of December. This gutter cleaning is a balancing act between waiting for the majority of the leaves to fall from the trees and not waiting so long that all rain gutters freeze solid with ice and leaves in them.
